07 - 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
08 - 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
09 - Red, green, and white food coloring
10 - Assorted sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
# Directions:
01 - In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
02 - Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and blend thoroughly.
03 - Sift the all-purpose flour with salt and fold into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
04 - Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up.
05 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
06 - On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough to approximately 1/4 inch thickness (0.5 cm).
07 - Use a boot-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes, then arrange them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
08 - Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges turn lightly golden. Remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
09 - Mix powdered sugar with 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk to create a thick, spreadable glaze. Divide and tint with food coloring as desired.
10 - Spread the colored icing over cooled cookies and add sprinkles or edible glitter if desired. Allow icing to set before serving.
